Dr Marius Foley

Dr Marius Foley is a researcher of design, media and communication practices. Marius’ PhD titled, Co-creative Publics and Publication Design, looks at the emergence of a contemporary iteration of co-creation practice out of social and participatory media. It posits the engaged publication as a model for social knowledge making and dissemination.

A key project within this PhD was Interaction Review and Redesign forABC Pool, co-led with Jeremy Yuille. Pool was the first social and participatory media experiment within the national broadcaster. Pool was a hybrid media space, sitting between the social media-making  and professional media production.

The ABC Pool research project looked closely at the community and other stakeholders in order to design a new experience, based on the motivations and practices within Pool. The interface design represented the key research findings, manifesting them as part of the navigation system. The site was re-launched in November 2011.

Marius is co-leading the development of Connected Studios with Blair Wilde, an online learning space that connects open web platforms such as Google+, Evernote and other discipline-relevant applications. Connected Studios uses a studio model that locates the student at the centre of their own learning space, within a broad community of participants.

Marius co-led the 2014 New York Minute global intensive, an investigation into new thinking and practices in design, media and communication.
